Countryside Kennels is by far the best kennel I have ever visited. The facility was spotless and the trainers were very professional. Lucky took time to visit with my son and I and listened to our desires for our new family member. From our very first visit, I knew this was where our future hunting partner would come from. After a few visits later, there was no doubt the puppy we purchased would be enrolled into the Start Em Right Program.
1. Box of steel shot 2s - $20.00
2. A pair of neoprene waders - $250.00
3. A dozen of decoys - $100.00
4. A COUNTRYSIDE KENNELS TRAINED RETRIEVER - PRICELESS!!! |

Countryside's Hannah Full Of Hope has transitioned seamlessly into our home & our lives. We can't imagine life without her now. We never thought we could replace our first lab, but Hannah has exceeded our expectations. You molded an outstanding companion & hunting partner & Bill is excited again about hunting over a dog that is so well bred & trained.
Thank you so much for bringing back the joy of an open field, a rock solid point & a retrieve to your hand EVERY time. |

I have known many good dog trainers during my time here at Michigan Out of Doors T.V. What I find so refreshing about Jim Miller is; yes, he has great dogs with very good blood lines. Yes, he is a very good trainer who works hard to get the best of his dogs. Yes, he works with his clients to maximize their time afield with their chosen breed. However, the thing that sticks out about Jim Miller is not only the kind of breeder and trainer he is, its the kind of person that he is. Jim will give you the best he has, he is a man of integrity and honesty. I feel very fortunate to be working with a pup I got from Jim, and look forward to many years of bird dog stories to tell. |

The puppy we purchased from you is great! We call her Buddy (a long story - my son named her). She did great with birds this past year (pheasant, chuckers), was very playful out in the field and followed a great hunter around(a 14 year old german short-hair that acts like she is a puppy). She had no problem with gun fire and found many birds. She knew they were in the brush, just didn't know what to do, so she circled and then just dove in on them. For such a young age, she is doing great!
Thanks Again Lucky - SHE IS GREAT !!!!!! |

Just thought I'd give you an update on how PJ did after her stay with you last summer, and to thank you for your training support.
I'll start with the best - a picture of PJ's first grouse. She pointed it on the edge of an old clearcut in the UP - not just a flash point, but a solid point for over 10 seconds. Luckily the grouse flushed toward the gunners giving us a relatively easy shot.
Throughout the rest of the season, PJ pointed and held quite a few woodcock, several more grouse, and even a couple wild pheasants in the late season. Not bad for a one year old puppy! My other dog (Angie) wasn't doing this consistently until she was nearly 4 years old.
Also entered PJ in a NAVHDA Natural Ability test in August and she got a Prize One (perfect score). Twenty-two dogs tested that weekend at the Southeastern MI chapter, and only three other dogs beside PJ got the perfect 112 point score.
Thanks again! |

You sure do know how to breed these dogs. The overall positive attribute we see in Kane is temperament and we love it. We appreciate having a dog that can give and receive affection but also go flop down half way across the room near no one and drift off to sleep. We see both the social side and independent side to him. He is mild mannered, calm and independent. He is also mischievous, playful and expresses desire in play. From the first time we brought him home, he would go to the door and whine when he had to do his business, and within 2 weeks was heading out the door alone for his 40 yard toilet trip (we have big windows to keep an eye on him).
We started training right after he came home. The commands he obeys are kennel (if close and directed to it), here, sit, and stay. He also sits to a single whistle blast. I have been doing light, fun retrieving sessions in a hall and he’ll fetch the small dummy 5 or 6 times before losing interest and wanting to go on to something else. I always gently catch and praise him for 15-20 seconds before gently and quietly removing the dummy and starting again. I have noticed lately that he is beginning to curve TO me and even dropping the dummy at my knees rather than making for the lair.
I have attached a shot of Kane from the beginning of February. He has grown so much since then…
Thanks again, we love him! |

 Hi Jim,
My husband and I went pheasant hunting in South Dakota. We were hesitant on taking Jack, the pup we purchased from you, due to his age of 5 mos. However, together we decided the pup was better off going along, then setting at home in the kennel. To make a long story short, What a hunter! Alan and I were elated at Jack and his abilities to hunt at such a young age. It was a full summer of basic training, but it still makes a new owner uneasy to start a young dog on birds. The ability to find birds, point (hold point), retrieve, and honor other dogs was at a high level for his age it impressed both of us. Once again, all I can say is "Thank You" for caring about your blood lines and having a wonderful line of pups. It was a great hunting season with 2 weeks in South Dakota and a new hunting companion to be very proud of.
Thank You Jim,
Alan and Wendy Hopkins |

Jim,
You might remember us...Travis and Crystal from Port Huron. We came one Saturday night, spur of the moment, and fell in love with our dog, Jack (you may know him as Elvis). He has been a wonderful addition to our family. English Setters are an amazing breed. He is so wonderful with our daughter Lily, and gets along great with our 9 year old chocolate Lab, Buster. He has helped put some pep in Busters step. We want to thank you so much. We are really happy with Jack.

Jim,
I thought you would like to see how Jack is doing. I am very pleased with
his disposition and learning capability. I often forget his age because he learns things so fast and is willing to please.
My husband and I are very happy with our pup (but with the blood lines you can't go wrong). Thank you very much for caring about the blood lines when you breed. My husband and I
like to hunt, but we also like a family pet with the "want to" instilled, which Jack has. Along with, so much personality we find ourselves laughing at him because he can be a real joy.
My husband has made the comment several times how Jack holds his head with pride when he is retrieving. I remember Sir Cooper did the same thing when we were in the field the day you planted a bird for him and that was what told me your dogs are proud to please. Jack is the same way:)
Proud owners and satisfied! |

Dear Jim,
We have a very happy 10 year old boy with his 1st german
shorthaired puppy. Her name is Gunner and she is adorable. We can't get over
how well she has adjusted to her new home. She is getting lots of love and
affection. We were so pleased with all your help and expertise on choosing
the right dog for our hunting needs. Just by luck we found you on the
internet. With your returned phone call we were sold on your knowledge and
professionalism, not just by your dogs and kennels. We have already referred
you and your kennel to everyone we know. Thank you so very much it was worth
the 8 hour round trip to get our puppy! |

After purchasing my yellow Lab Drake from another breeder, I was searching for someone to give him additional training. You had accompanied me and my buddy on a guided hunt and I was very impressed with you and your dog Cooper. During further conversations with you and discussing my goals I had set for Drake, I decided to enroll him in your 28-day gun dog program. I was amazed in the difference you had made with Drake. Since then, he's been back every year for a refresher course and has turned into a wonderful started dog. Thanks for your attentiveness to my needs. |

Hey Lucky,
Just wanted to say thanks again for everything. You always go all out to
provide us and our dogs with the most memorable hunting experiences. The
companionship of you and your dogs have definitely been the highlight of
our annual pheasant hunting trips down there for the past seven years.
Congratulations on a class-act kennel. We've never had any doubts in your
ability to own/manage a first class facility with impeccable dogs. |

When I purchased my second black lab puppy, I was looking for a dog who
would be stronger in the field, yet a great family dog.
Captiva's championship blood lines (Lean Kate & NFC AFC Five Star
Patton)provided a strong-willed, highly driven pup who is very adept at field,
agility, rally and obedience work, yet still a good family dog. I was off to a good
start with her, but unable to get exactly the results I desired.
I met James "Lucky" Miller at the Detroit Kennel Club Show at Cobo Hall in
Detroit. I watched Lucky put his puppy Gracie thru her paces, and then met
with him one on one. Jim listened very carefully to my needs and desires for my dog, and how he can help me achieve my goals. I decided to head to
Countryside Kennels in Bad Axe for one of Lucky's one on one sessions,
custom designed for my dog's needs.
Jim's facility was exactly as promised: meticulously clean and very professional.
In her one day session Captiva retrieved in tall grass, ponds, blind and open
fields. She also worked live birds, pointed/flushed and greatly improved in her
obedience work. Most importantly, I also received additional training in
handling my dog.
With great anticipation I returned Captiva to Lucky for an additional two weeks
of training. Upon completion, Captiva met and exceeded every goal I had
established for her. Her retrieves are complete and polished, her whistle work
is stronger and she remains focused on her duties.
Jim did a fantastic job for me and Captiva will be returning to Countryside
Kennels . His name is Lucky but I think Captiva is the lucky one. |

We’d like to thank you for taking the time and care in understanding our needs in determining the right dog for our family. Speaking with you and explaining our needs, you were able to recommend a started dog, rather than a puppy. We knew the first time we saw Hannah, she was the dog for us. She can hunt up against any professionally trained guide dog, yet still come home and snuggle with our
five-year-old. We will recommend you to anyone who is looking for a great dog. Thank you for assisting us in making one of our most valuable investments; our newest companion, Hannah. |

It only took hunting with Lucky and his dogs just one
time to see what kind of person and trainer he was. In
watching his dog's respond to him as well as hunt for
him you could tell they loved what they were doing, it
wasn't just work for them...it was fun. I took my Lab
Nikki to Lucky for the two week Introductory course
when she was 6 months old. I could see such a big
difference in her in just two weeks. I then took her
back for the 28 day Gun Dog Course where Lucky
turned her into the hunting dog I have always dreamed
of. She is now a wonderful, well-trained bird dog. I
would recommend Lucky to anyone wishing to have a
very well-trained and terrific hunting dog as well as a
life long companion. |
